Our Practice

The Plastic Surgery Center of Maui is located in the city of Kahului on the north shore of Maui. It is 5 minutes from the airport. A full range of ambulatory surgical services are offered including a completely equipped operating room where both general and sedation anesthesia are commonly and safely provided. Our Ambulatory Surgical Center is fully accredited by the American Association of Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Inc. Our nursing staff is fully certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Visitor accommodations and postoperative nursing care may be arranged through our office for your convenience. Appointments can be coordinated to address the complete spectrum of your cosmetic surgical needs.

Dr. Leonard Yu

Dr. Yu graduated with honors from Amherst College and received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York. He completed a 5 year residency in General Surgery and a 2 year fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Yu was appointed an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Florida where he was in practice for four years. He has been in private practice on Maui since 1994.

Dr. Yu is a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and board certified in all aspects of Plastic Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the Hawaii Society of Plastic Surgery, the Wound Healing Society and a candidate for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Yu has been actively involved in the development of plastic surgery through teaching other plastic surgeons, his research and publications. He is the recipient of several grants and awards for his scientific work and has authored or co-authored over twenty articles and books on topics including nerve reconstruction, breast reconstruction, and breast implants. He has presented this information at over twenty national and international scientific meetings and has taught other surgeons during several national courses in breast reconstruction. He is a Co-holder of a patent on the use of Bioglass to stimulate bone growth. As a part of his commitment to children, Dr. Yu has donated his surgical expertise to Operation Smile in China.

Dr. Yu grew up in New Jersey but now calls Maui his home. He has three children.

Patient Education

We are committed to providing quality education to the community, as well as quality medical care. To this end, we are happy to provide complimentary orientations at our office, and to provide materials addressing common plastic surgery topics. We believe that all your questions should be answered and that you understand and are comfortable with any surgical procedures that you are considering. Both our staff and Dr. Yu can address these issues with you.

Financial Information

Details regarding our financial policies for consultations and cosmetic surgery are available upon request. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, cashier's checks and cash. We do not currently participate with any insurance companies. We can assist you by filing insurance claims for our patients as a courtesy after payment has been made in full for all services rendered. The option for patient financing is also available.
